Step 4: Establish the Strength of Each Value

Based upon the number of Values involved, Vital Values will generate a questionnaire that is specific to your client. The questionnaire will ask the client to evaluate which Value is more important, as well as how much more important it is in relation to the other Value(s). The questionnaire includes every possible combination of the available comparisons so that each Value is measured against every other Value one (1) time in the exercise.

Example
Assume that letters A, B, C, D & E represent Values in a Vital Values exercise

Each green box containing a check-mark in Diagram 1 above corresponds to the comparisons that the user is asked to make, such as

1)       A—-B – which Value is more important, and by how much?

2)       A—-C – which Value is more important, and by how much?

3)       A—-D – which Value is more important, and by how much?

4)       A—-E – which Value is more important, and by how much?

5)       B—-C – which Value is more important, and by how much?

6)       B—-D – which Value is more important, and by how much?

7)       B—-E – which Value is more important, and by how much?

8)       C—-D – which Value is more important, and by how much?

9)       C—-E – which Value is more important, and by how much?

10)    D—-E – which Value is more important, and by how much?

The boxes shaded red in Diagram 1 represent comparisons that do not need to be made because they would be comparing Values against themselves:

A—-A

B—-B

etc.

The boxes shaded yellow in Diagram 1 represent the reciprocal of comparisons already made. For instance:

B—-A has already been answered as A—-B

C—-A has already been answered as A—-C

etc.

*The output (i.e. result) is synthesized by the Vital Values software and explained further in the next step. This is based solely on the judgments/simple decisions made by the client during this stage of the process.

*The results that you and your client can expect to see will demonstrate the strength of each Value as well as the relative strength of each Value compared to the rest.

*At this point, the client has completed the questionnaire. A credit will be deducted from your account, reflecting the use of one (1) Vital Value. The client will see a message on the screen stating, “Before seeing the results, your coach must review them. You will receive an e-mail from your coach when they are available.”
